Zumba Dance-NOTICE

THERE WILL BE NO MORE ZUMBA DANCE SESSIONS ON A TUESDAY-THE INSTRUCTOR HAS STARTED ANOTHER CLASS IN RIPON ON A FRIDAY AND CAN NO LONGER MAKE THE TUESDAY CLASS. I WILL LOOK AT ALTERNATIVES, BUT WE NEED AT LEAST 10 LADIES ON A REGULAR BASIS TO ATTRACT A FITNESS INSTRUCTOR UP TO THE AIRFIELD.

Bus schedule

Following enquiries made this morning, the 142/143 bus route will run as per the harrogate Coach Travel until Saturday 16th April.

From Monday 18th April Harrogate Coach travel and Eddie Brown tours are running the service, in effect there will be no disruption to service.

Both timetables are availible from the Unit Welfare Office and from the respective web sites.

Notice from Harrogate Coach Travel

Changes to Services 142/143

After losing the tender for operating the whole service from Ripon to York, it was beginning to look like there would only be one bus every 2 hours, as this was all North Yorkshire County Council are prepared to pay for. After great deliberation, we are continuing to run a number of these services commercially (without subsidy), although they will need to be well used to continue operating. We will be offering 10 journey, and monthly tickets on the bus and termly passes by Mail order which will be able to be used on any bus on the 142/143. If you buy a 10 journey ticket, you will only pay for 8 and then get 2 extra free.
However, we WILL NOT accept tickets issued by the other operator. To travel on our bus, you need to have a ticket issued by us.

Message sent on behalf of MHS Communications

MHS has been informed by a customer that he received a cold call from 2 individuals who produced SSE Identity Cards and stated that MHS has brokered a deal with SSE who are the providers of all gas and electricity to the UK and that if a customer is with a power company like EON or NPOWER then the bill they receive includes their fuel costs plus commission. They go on to say that a 22% reduction in the bill for energy can be achieved because this is what MHS has brokered with SSE and invite the customer to sign a change of contract form which included a direct debit.

There is no truth in this and neither DE nor MHS has brokered any sort of deal.  We believe that this is a scam aimed at coercing customers into signing a new energy contract.  Please be on your guard against such practices.

Thank you,

Youth Club Easter Day out

Hello everyone.

The youth club in association with Army Welfare Services (AWS), are running a day out to The National Railway Museum in York. We are going on what should be a most enjoyable visit to one of the biggest railway museums in Europe.

Details are as follows:

Date: Wednesday 20th April.

Timings: Pick up at 0930. Depart from museum 1630, estimate back to the Community Centre at 1730.

Cost: A mere £1 per person!

Who can go: All children who are signed up as Youth Club members. Parents/Guardians are also more than welcome.

How do you sign up for this adventure: Pick up a medical consent form for EACH person going, along with a booking form. Return both to the Youth Club (With payment) by 6th April.

No forms or payment? Without these I have to say you will not get on the bus!!

Everyone who is coming is advised to bring a packed lunch and drinks to last the day. With most of the exhibits inside the weather should not disrupt our day too much, but do take adequate precautions with coats etc.

If you have any questions do not hesitate to ask.

So come along and get involved. Kathryn from AWS has organized this day and is keen to see just how well the Youth Club is doing. You never know, you may also like to come and help out at one of our regular Wednesday evening meetings!! Just ask for details.

All the team look forward to receiving your completed forms for this event. If it is a success there is more to come.

Bernie.

Weekly what's on reminder

CHIEF OF THE GENERAL STAFF (CGS) BRIEFING TEAM

 - FAMILIES BRIEFING
TUESDAY 29th MARCH 2011, EVERGREEN ROOM, HIPSWELL LODGE AT 1830HRS

1.         CGS’s briefing team is due to visit the Garrison during the period 28 Mar 11 to 01 Apr 11 in order to talk to 4 Mech Bde soldiers.  It is intended that on 29 Mar 2011 they will give a briefing to all families within the Garrison and take questions.  The role of the CGS’s Briefing Team is to improve communications between those at the top of the Army and those at the ‘frontline’ – your families.  They give a presentation to families highlighting current issues across the army and this last about 60 minutes followed by an open forum discussion.

2.         What is this briefing all about?  CGS’s Briefing Team ensures that the Army, our families and senior civil servants are updated about Army business.  They also play a crucial role in ensuring views and concerns expressed during visits are presented directly to CGS himself.  The Team produces an annual report summarising the issues raised during their visits, with comment on each issue by both expert staff officers and by CGS himself.

3.         The programme for 29 Mar 2011 is as follows:

·         Arrive: 1815-1830 hrs.  There will be light refreshments available.

·         Briefing: 1830 to 1930hrs.  During this there will be a presentation – what the Army is doing now, and what is planned for the future, followed by an open forum where families will have their chance to raise any issue or concerns that will be fed back to CGS

·         Children:  Whilst the adults are listening to the presentation and taking part in the open forum the following facilities will be available for children:

§  0-8yrs Children’s Corner (Area within the Briefing Room with toys for parents to keep children near by)
§  8+ Activities lead by the Community Development Workers

·        Depart: 2000hrs + after open forum is finished.

4.         Could I ask that you publicise this widely in your unit and encourage as many of your families to attend as it is an excellent opportunity to get their concerns and issues raised with the head of the Army.  I hope that as many as possible will be able to make it to Hipswell Lodge in the Evergreen Room on Tuesday 29 Mar 2011 at 1830 hours.  Thank for your support.

NEW!Confidential Helpline rolls out to support Armed Forces and their families - Forcesline relaunches 1st March
A confidential helpline called Forcesline, set up to support the Armed Forces and their families, is to roll out with a new look and feel from 1st March. Previously known as the Confidential Support Line, the relaunch aims to reach even more people and coincides with a new wave of troop deployment to Afghanistan.
Operated on behalf of the MoD by Armed Forces charity SSAFA Forces Help, the confidential service is totally independent of the military chain of command and is accessible through free phone numbers from anywhere in the world. Over 6,000 servicemen and women, veterans and family members call the helpline every year. Callers can talk about any matter concerning them, and issues vary from mental health problems, debt concerns, relationship advice to queries concerning operational deployment.
The helpline was originally set up in 1997, and staff are trained to deal with every type of situation - callers can be of any rank and from any Service. Additionally, the helpline provides support for members of the Armed Forces who have gone AWOL for whatever reason. A staff member nicknamed “AWOL Andy” is on hand to provide guidance and can act as a mediator between the AWOL serviceman or woman and their chain of command.
Visit the SSAFA Forces Help website for full details.
