*****Funding for Playparks********

Dear All,

Please find information below regarding Parents for Playgrounds campaign which is currently being promoted by actress Patsy Kensit. The campaign involves a potential £15000 to update and renovate existing playgrounds. Parents and residents can register and upload pictures of an existing playground with information as to why their playspace should receive £15000 prize money. Contact the Unit Welfare Office for support-this is a community driven grant and should be applied for by a community committee.

It may be an opportunity for parents and residents of Dishforth Airfield to become involved with supporting information such as the following examples:

  • being an isolated station in a rural area
  • many parents deployed on operational duties
  • playspace vital in children and young people’s development
  • current playpark has limited value
  • access to funding limited from other sources in this current climate

Youth Club event this Wednesday 23rd Feb

Hi,

Just to say I have managed to PROVISIONALLY book bowling for twenty children, at Menwith Hill, Wednesday 23rd between 1400 and 1600 Hrs. The cost for two games and a bite to eat is £6.oop a child. I have not (Yet) secured transport to get us there and back, so it might be self drive.

To that end, please contact me if you wish to go. Children from both groups are invited. My number is 07887804012. I need to know numbers by Monday midday in order to ensure we get to go, or, cancel in time.

This also means there will be NO evening events next week. The bowling is instead of the nightly meeting.

Thank you,

Bernie.

AWS-Survey Update

Community Support are coming to the final fortnight for responses to be submitted to the Have Your Say Community Questionnaire.

If you or your staff haven’t already completed the questionnaire and you live within the Garrison, can you take a few minutes to complete a questionnaire. The responses are confidential and can’t be tracked to individuals.
The questionnaire can be accessed through a DII computer ie at your desk.

Also can you remind your families that this is their opportunity to help shape the work of Community Support over the coming 12 months and encourage them to fill out a questionnaire.

Dishforth Youth Club member details.

Hello all,

Just a quick message to say thank you very much for all the support we received during our first week back at the Youth Club, here at Dishforth. I am really glad to be able to say all the adult volunteers, (Claire, Louise, Lowie and myself) enjoyed the evening and in particular the behaviour of all children who came along.

We have come up with an outline plan for the coming weeks and beyond. The weekly activities have been posted somewhere on this blog.

The timings are now 1730 - 1830 for the 5 to 8 Year olds, or until the end of year 4 in school terms. 1845 - 2000 for the over 8's. This is due to volunteers not being able to start at 1630 and so we have come up with two groups instead of the previous three.

In order for your child to attend can I please ask that you fill in a Personal Details form? I will have paper copies at the club from this Wednesday. If I knew how to attach it to this site then I would! (First ever blog you see).

Many thanks,
Bernie.

Cycle Club Update

Volunteer Support to SSAFA

Although its business is (quite properly) done beyond the chain of command, I have a good understanding as to what SSAFA does on behalf of our soldiers and their families: it does us all proud!  with the focus provided by Op H12, 2010 was an especially busy year and we are fortunate that considerable efforts of SSAFA's volunteers have raised significant funds the benefits of which will reach forward in years to come.  But, with the normal posting cycle taking some volunteers away from Garrison, and because others who have taken an active role for several years now wanting to stand back a little, for SSAFA in Catterick to remain viable it needs new volunteers.

So this letter is simply to ask that you help SSAFA help us by engaging with your people to encourage new volunteers to come forward and offer their services.  Those interested should contact either the Chair or Secretary, their contact details are given below, and note that an introductory training and general information day if planned for Tuesday 8th February 2011.
